»The Full Story
On Feb. 2, 2009, 14-year-old Deborah Kalai Fourzan was dropped off at her high school in Tecumseh, Okla. at 8:00 a.m., but she never made it to her classes.
Her friend's and family call her by her middle name, "Kalai."
Police say Kalai told friends that she was leaving with a family friend named "Jim" to attend an Anime convention in California.
But friends didn't know Kalai's mother wasn't aware of her plans.
"Jim" is actually 40-year-old James Joseph Reimer, and Kalai's family had known him for almost five years.
He frequented the restaurant where Kalai's mother, Crystal Vanbuskirk, worked and came to their house for barbeques.
Kalai met Reimer the summer before her disappearance, after she moved from her father's house in Texas to live with her mother and step-father in Oklahoma.
Cops fear Reimer may have lured and manipulated Kalai to come with him to the Anime convention with darker intentions.
In the middle of January 2009, Crystal discovered sexually explicit text messages on her daughter's phone, allegedly coming from Reimer.
She took the phone straight to police, who questioned Reimer.
He claimed the two had been role playing stories from Anime cartoons, but cops weren't convinced.
They worked to get a warrant, but before it came through, Kalai and Reimer disappeared.
Reimer is now charged with Soliciting Sexual Conduct Or Communication With Minor By Use Of Technology, and cops believe Kalai may be in danger.
Cops believe Kalai is travelling with 40-year-old James Joseph Reimer and that they may be headed to California.
Reimer and Kalai may be traveling in a white 1994 Mercury Cougar with Oklahoma license plates VRW932. The car has significant front end damage.
Reimer has a tattoo on his left arm and smokes Grand Prix or Tucson cigarettes.
Kalai may dye her hair black, has a birthmark on the back of her right arm. She loves wearing a long black trench coat with a fur collar.
Crystal never suspected Kalai would do something like this.
"This is so not like her," Crystal said.
Reimer was a good friend of Crystal and her husband, Richard.
Crystal said he was like "an uncle to my daughter."
However, she is convinced that Reimer lured and manipulated Kalai to take off with him.
And though she may have gone with him willingly at first, Crystal fears that when she wants to come home, Reimer won't let her.
She won't give up the search until Kalai is back, safe and sound.
"She has two little sisters that miss her so much," Crystal said.
Deborah Kalai Fourzan went missing on Feb. 2, 2009. She loves Anime and drawing and may be headed to an Anime convention.
The arrest came after troopers with the Washington State Highway Patrol pulled over Reimer for a traffic violation. After doing a standard driver's check on Reimer, the troopers found out he was wanted in Oklahoma.
Cops in Oklahoma say Reimer took off with Fourzan on Feb. 2, 2009, after he allegedly solicited her for sex via text messages to her cell phone.
Washington state officials say Reimer was still driving the 1994 white Mercury Cougar originally identified.
